MALIBU              JIU-JITSU

"I ADVISE ALL PARENTS TO PUT THEIR KIDS IN JIU-JITSU CLASSES BEFORE ANY OTHER SPORT"

 - KELLY SLATER

HEAD INSTRUCTOR

Scott Singer is a 4th degree black belt under Coral Belt Renato Magno. He’s a multi-time Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championship gold medalist, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu gold medalist, and has been training since 2001. Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, Scott opened Street Sports Chatsworth in 2010 as an owner/instructor and another Street Sports in Calabasas in 2020. As an instructor, Scott demands discipline while valuing safety above all else. He brings immense knowledge and a unique teaching style incorporating overall athletic fitness, self-defense and competition training. Scott has coached kids teams to multiple Jiu-Jitsu championships and his students who have gone on to become Division 1 wrestlers and football players credit Scott with increasing their focus and problem-solving abilities as well as instilling a lifelong appreciation for the beautiful and highly practical art of Jiu-Jitsu. Scott cares deeply about the progress of his students as both martial artists and human beings.

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR

Coach Francis is Professor’s Scott’s first student that went through all the belt ranks with him from the start of White Belt to Black Belt. Francis started his Jiu Jitsu journey at the beginning of 2013 and earned his Black Belt December 2021. During this time he became a 4 time NABJJF Medalist competing in almost all belt levels.

Coach Francis’ Jiu Jitsu journey began at the tail end of 2012 when he was in search of a practical martial art for his 2 Daughters, Trinity and Tiffany who were in middle school at the time. After exploring Google and Yelp reviews, he found Professor Scott, owner and head instructor of Street Sports Chatsworth. He enrolled his 2 Daughters and decided to also become a student. Prior to this exposure in the “Gentle Art” of Jiu JItsu, Coach Francis’ background was in Powerlifting. He competed in multiple weight classes from 148lbs, 165lbs, and 181lbs becoming a 5 time USPA (United States Powerlifting Association) California State Champion setting multiple State and National Records in the Benchpress and Deadlift. His most notable Deadlift Record was 551lbs at 180lb bodyweight.

Both Daughters also competed in Jiu Jitsu tournaments earning respective medals on the podium and earned their Blue Belts from Professor Scott  in 2020 as they entered their college years.

HOW DO WE REMAIN CALM ENOUGH UNDER PRESSURE TO RECOGNIZE OPPORTUNITY?
HOW DO WE DEVELOP CONFIDENCE WITHOUT SACRIFICING HUMILITY?
HOW DO WE ENSURE THAT OUR OWN IMPROVEMENT ALSO IMPROVES OUR COMMUNITY?

Jiu-Jitsu is a dynamic and ever-evolving system of self-defense that downloads the answers to these questions directly into our bodies.

Technique. Roll. Repeat.

As the practical wisdom of Jiu-Jitsu becomes muscle memory, you will see things you didn't see before. And then you will see more.

We started Malibu Jiu-Jitsu because we're all at risk of letting technology distract us from basic principles of human well-being.

When we train together, we grow together.

Jiu-Jitsu never ends, so get started.

How Class Works

First, an overall fitness warmup. Then Scott demonstrates a Jiu-Jitsu technique at the complexity level of the newest student present. He then matches students into pairs and gives direction and encouragement as they drill the technique into muscle memory at a safely dialed-down speed. He ends the class with free-training, when more experienced students compete in friendly “rolls” while newer white belts watch and ask questions.
